First of all, I am a mother. I care about kids, all kids. I love to see their smiles, their silly faces, their serious faces, and their pouty faces. I love to get to know each child I photograph, what interests them, what they dislike, and sometimes if I am lucky I can even share secrets with them. Secrets like the fact that we saw a bunny rabbit hop into a flower bed. I love photographing all ages of children as each age has something special about it that needs to be forever captured in a photograph.
My goal for each session is to show off the personality of the child I am photographing, so much so that I want the parents to recognize their child in a single photograph, that something special that makes them their child. That special spark in the eye, the tilt to their smile that tells the Mom that they are up to something, or holding in a giggle. If you can hear in your mind a child’s laughter when you see an image, then I count that as a success. If the serious expression in a child’s face, makes your heart melt with the innocence you see and remember the cuddles you have shared, then it is a success. If the silly face you see reminds you of times spent laughing as a family and acting silly, then it’s a success.
My children, my world, and the minute details of everyday life inspire me. I find beauty in the silhouette of a leafless tree against a twilight sky, with the shapes of each branch made more pronounced so that the overall effect is one of beauty of God’s creation. I find joy in the simple hug shared between a parent and child, a simple holding of hands while walking down a street. Life is full of moments to be cherished, and photographed….forever preserving their beauty to be remembered in years to come.
