The Sparrow Fund

10% of all my May sales are going to help “feather the nest” at The Sparrow Fund!

So, for this last week of May, I’m going to offer a few specials.  Some will be ONE DAY ONLY and others will until the end of May.  :)  All in an effort to boost the May sales so I can give the Sparrow Fund a BIG check.  I’d love that…wouldn’t you?

What IS the Sparrow Fund?

Thousands of U.S. families adopt internationally each year. The Sparrow Fund is an organization committed to encouraging and supporting these families as they prepare for the adventure of adoption. We do this by providing regular training opportunities as well as grants to families in financial need to enroll in programs specifically designed to provide counsel and comprehensive medical reviews of their referred child.

Adoptive families can become overwhelmed by the financial costs of adoption. Participating in a program like this is an added expense that is difficult to manage. There are so many unknowns when it comes to adoption, and we believe that preparation plays a significant part in making the unpredictable road of adoption a little more smooth. Worthwhile training and national programs staffed by professionals offer invaluable services to help prepare the adoptive family as well as their child.

The Sparrow Fund was started because we do not want anything to be an obstacle in the adoption process. We are committed to see ONE MORE child with a forever family and ONE LESS orphan in the world.

The rest of the family

Since I have showed off the horse photos, here’s the kids from the family session.  ;)

Total grab shot while waiting on the rest of the family to go to see those beautiful horses.  Found out he likes to play basketball.  :)  He also likes archery.

Such a handsome young man, growing up quickly before his parents eyes (I know, I’m in the same stage).  He was so polite and super helpful during the session too.

We were playing with some backlighting (before I knew about those horses), and she willingly posed for me.  :)

Of course, I have to match the brother’s photo (well sort of).  :)  She is just beautiful isn’t she?

A girl and her horse

I’ve had this secret longing for years, I wanted to take photos of someone with their horse.  I’ve heard from a few people they have horses, but I didn’t feel comfortable just saying “Hey, can I come take photos?!”  So, during a recent session, as we were walking around, the sweet 14 year old mentioned, “I wish I could have my photo taken with Moe.”

MOE?!  Who is Moe?

I was thinking, Moe is likely a dog.  You know, many clients end up putting their furry family members in the photos (I love it by the way), but when I asked who Moe was, she replied, “My horse.”

Yes, I about fainted.  You see, this family was super duper cooperative and we were almost done and I had PLENTY of sunlight left.  I asked where their horse was and got the reply that their horses were about 15-20 minutes away.  I was all, “Let’s GO!”  ;)

I loved the sun flare in this one.  I’ve been working on getting a good sunflare photo, you know, the kind where it actually WORKS in the image and not something that was accidental?  ;)  That golden setting sun was phenomenal.

Loved this in black and white as well.  I loved watching her interactions with her horse.  She loves that horse…really really really loves that horse.  I can totally see why as well.  He was so affectionate, and sweet, and made ME fall in love with him.

Isn’t that rim lighting gorgeous?  ::sigh::  Need to work on some more of the ones of her looking at me with the horse as well.

Sweet sweet baby

*yes I’m singing that song right now even though I do not own it*

You know how sometimes you’ve had an image in your mind for years?  No?  Well, I have.  I’ve wanted to do one of these images, only I could never quite get it (and yes, this is a beautiful blending of two images so that sweet baby is NEVER put in possible harms way*).  Either the baby would wake up when I tried to move the arms into position, or not sleep period, or any other possibilities.  But this session, it all worked out.

Probably because we weren’t trying to put this sweet little one back on the soccer ball, which is a whole other blending of photos to create the final portrait.

Most of my images, though, looked amazingly like the one above.  Wide awake and “talking” to me.

Being in Mommy’s arms though?  Sweet sweet dreams and happiness.

*If you don’t know what I mean by a beautiful blending of photographs, then know that photos like this where the baby is propped on their arms are NOT safe for newborns.  Their arms are not ready for this.  To achieve this look, you MUST photograph with the parent holding the head and supporting it from the top and from the bottom then merge the photos.  It’s the SAFE way to do this.  Safety first in ALL things to do with children and clients.  ALWAYS.
