Happy Valentine’s Day

Yes, I know it’s early!  However, I had an idea for a Valentine’s Day prop, and once I had it made I had to use it.  Only, the idea didn’t work out as well as I had hoped until my own daughter came in to clown around.  I adore this image of her with the prop!  It even made a fairly cute little card.

I think, though, I am going to have to invest in some great Valentine’s Day card templates for next year!

Sweet little one year old

Isn’t she adorable?

I think the pettiskirt definitely needs to be used for older children unless they are sitting in the pile of fluff!  It was so cute watching her walk around in this huge fluffy skirt though.  I love that she’s holding that foam hear too…awww…so sweet.

This young lady is so sweet and special to me, and her family has this new puppy (well, new in that the puppy is about a year old).  I was allowed to play with any and all ideas I have had in my head for the past few years, and one was to photograph a child with a dog…loving on each other, hugging, something.  I adore this “kiss” from her dog to her.

But then, in the close up portraits I see glimpses of the young adult she will be in the not too distant future.  I see her sweetness, her spirit, and I’m reminded that I have known her since she was a baby.  The times?  They do fly by don’t they?

At the end, when we were both freezing in the wind blowing, and she was dressed like it was summer-time in January, she posed for me and I saw that image in my camera lens that said to me, “THIS is her!”

I had such a great time taking her portraits and “playing” with ideas.  I ended up shooting way more than I probably should have, but with a subject who is so easy and listens, it was a lot of fun.

What a FUN family session this was

This client told me a few of her desires for the session, and I knew we could pull it off in the month of January (one of her desires) if we had the RIGHT weekend.  Last weekend, with it’s predicted 65 and sunny day for Saturday made us both giddy with excitement.  The reality of the day, cool if not cold, windy, and temps around 50-55 by this point.  Her family braved it out, and this one image she had seen in my home was her top desire for the day.

We got it!

They were also celebrating 1 year as a family (I’m not going to say complete family as I hope to one day have a session with another little one in it).  So, we took a few of her precious daughter to commemorate her 1 year with them.

That toe on the ground behind her just makes this pose to me (and no I did not ask her to do that).   See those leaves her in Mom’s hands in the above portrait?  She was worried that her leaves would blow away in the wind, and we had to carefully hold them for her.  I adore this age so much!!

We did our normal close up face portraits, and this little guy made me work to get that beautiful smile.  What did it?  I asked him what he drove.  LOL  He thought that it was hilarious that I would think he actually drives.  By the way, his response?  “I drive a BUS!!!!”  Followed by giggles.

Thanks for such a fun afternoon session, even if it was much faster than my normal ones due to the chilly wind.  Thanks so much for braving that wind without coats, and making the session so much fun!

Symbols of Faith

I have wanted to do this image for a long time, but I never could decide on what I wanted the hands to be holding.  I kept thinking of a heart, but that is because my inspiration for this image was using a heart.  This recent session was a wonderful one for me on so many levels.  One, it was set up as a modeling session for my client’s oldest child.  It was a session solely focused on their oldest child, which I loved the thought of that as so often we as parents capture the baby of the family, or want all the kids together, and we never seem to focus solely on one child.  But, even more fun for me, was the fact that this mom told me to play and try out all these visions I have had in my head for years.

I knew this little girl young lady has a deep faith already.  The cross is important to her, and as I was walking around their home looking for my “heart” to use in the image I saw this cross.  This cross was lying in a catch-all kind of plate for loose change, the cast offs of our daily hectic lives.  It was there, as if it’s a reminder to those in their family to keep their faith close, and the cross ever present in their lives.  I suddenly knew what I needed to use.

I hope she likes it as much as I do.
